Introducing Zoe Coquelicot
The Poppy-Dahlia Adventure series isn’t your average read.
One story, written as two books, told from each sister’s perspective.
In the first book, you will read the story from Anna Dahlia’s point of view. Then, continue with the second book to increase comprehension, add extra details, and story variations with the same story seen from her sister Zoe’s viewpoint.
Reading a book twice can dramatically increase reader comprehension. However, encouraging readers to read a story twice can be tough.
Providing the same story from another character’s point of view, bringing a change in perspective, and some alternate storylines will excite readers to take a deeper dive into what they have just read.
Introducing Zoe Coquelicot
In this Poppy-Dahlia Adventure series, Zoe Coquelicot is the other primary character in the story. She is the younger sister to Anna Dahlia and she is the focus of the second book in each of the stories of the series.
The initial inspiration for Zoe came from my youngest daughter, but they are not meant to be the same person. As with Anna Dahlia, I think it’s fun for my youngest to see a similar character in a story. My goal is to write strong female lead characters and put them in this story as an example to empower more young women to take the lead and blaze their own trails. I also want them to know that it’s ok to be afraid or worried sometimes and that with perseverance they can push beyond what they think is holding them back.
Who is Zoe?
Zoe lives in a suburb south of San Francisco. She is a 4th grader at an elementary school not far from where she lives, and her older sister Anna Dahlia attends the middle school next door. Most day’s Zoe meets Anna Dahlia after school and they walk home together. This is the first year Zoe has been at the elementary school by herself. All of her previous years, Anna Dahlia was in an upper grade, and all of her teachers loved her. Zoe always heard about how great it was to have Anna Dahlia in their class. Zoe always strove to leave her own impression though, working to find a way to differentiate herself from her sister.
Zoe does fine academically, she tends to go through cycles, excelling in one subject for a while, then switching it up. Everyone at the school knows Zoe, and she knows everyone’s name. Quite often she will be out someplace with her family and someone will come over and say hi to her.
On weekends her family often likes to take day trips around the San Francisco Bay Area. Her Papa is always on the lookout for another interesting spot to take the family out for a hike or a bike ride, maybe visiting some attraction. Occasionally they also enjoy family camping trips, some short ones during the spring and fall, and a longer one during the summer.
Zoe enjoys meeting new people wherever she goes, it energizes her. She loves her afterschool dance program at the neighborhood rec center. She is also very active with her father. You can often find her rock climbing with him at the local rock gym, or on a bike ride along the Bay Trail with him.
